Type 1 Diabetes

Matters to me.

As a T1D parent, I recognize how lucky we are with reliable health insurance, supportive friends & family, and medical staff to care for my son’s disease in the best possible way. My heart goes out to the parents and children that live each day with this disease without the same opportunities and support. In gratitude, and in support of T1D education and awareness, I will give this silent disease a voice whenever possible. We hope for a cure, but while we’re waiting, let us talk about it!                                                                                                                                       ♥ Amanda

What is Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that occurs when a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, the hormone that controls blood-sugar levels. T1D develops when the insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells are mistakingly destroyed by the body’s immune system. The cause of the attack is still being researched, however scientists believe the cause may have genetic and environmental components. There is nothing anyone can do to prevent T1D. Presently, there is no known cure. [jdrf.org]
